Dragon Ball v09 ch130 – Tian Jinfan Panics!
There it is finally. I actually wanted to release this for Christmas. But shit just piles on that time of the year. Besides the Christmas days, there are a few birthdays. My aunt and uncle, my sisters boyfriend, two close friends. And after Christmas there was my sisters birthday, new years and then my birthday. Additionally whenever my sister and her boyfriend go on a weekend trip or holiday I have to do some catsitting. I should actually be there right now, but I wanted to finally get this done first.
Normally I save these as jpg with 80% quality. Which is still high, but it does add some dirt back into the cleaned colors. Keeps the filesize down, though. But this one took so long, I wanted to keep it the original quality. So it is a little bit bigger, but has 100% quality. We are almost halfway through the fully colored chapters. 23 or 24 donw and 27 to go.
The other thing. When I got to uploading this just a few minutes ago I noticed share-online.biz wasn’t reachable. So no link for that one yet. And on filecloud it wouldn’t let me log in, and when I tried to reset the account, it told me it doesn’t exist. And I didn’t want to get into that right now, since it’s late. So no filecloud link yet. And lastly on cramit.in, a lot of files were dead. Which is not surprising, since the last upload was a while ago. Could also be that the filecloud account got deleted because I didn’t log in since uploading chapter 129. I will look into it, and reupload the dead chapters in the next few days.

Just so you’re all caught up. I initially used mediafire. But there is a guy or firm that reported many of my links, claiming they own the digital rights or whatever. In the beginning mediafire just deleted those uploads. But suddenly the locked my whole account. Didn’t even let me log in, so that I might retrieve other uploads that were not illegal. Mediafire has become quite the dick. I know they are good. No waiting time before or between. Unlimited storage space for even free users. Files stay online as long as you log in once a month. Decent speed. But after what they did to me, why would I go back to them?

Hey, I’m not sure if you heard the news yet, but Shueisha is releasing full colored digital versions of the first 20 tankoban volumes of Dragon Ball. They are using the Manga colors. Perhaps you could use these for future colored chapters, to avoid the delay and anguish that comes with cleaning the colored chapters? I’d have to see them. What dimensions are they. But it says tankōbon. My version comes from the kanzenban release, which as I understand it, is above the tankōbon release in terms of quality. The colors in the sample page do look quite beautiful though. Would even be interesting to see a digital version of theirs of the normal manga. I have a feeling my version is still superior, because I not only digitalize the paper version, but highly edit and refine it (cleaning up the lines). Still, would be interesting to see. Maybe I’d realize I don’t have to scanlate this, wouldn’t that be something.

They are already being released simultaneously in Japanese (digital and print) and English (digital only). Here is what the english version looks like:

It looks pretty clean, but the translation leaves a lot to be desired. I would hate to see your scanslation come to an end over this as it is vastly superior to the official product. I was thinking you could use these (with your translation, of course) to replace future full color pages if they are ripped at full quality in the future, to save yourself all that hard work cleaning all the artwork

Also, in this case, the difference between kanzenban and tankoban for the digital versions is only in amount of chapters included in each volume.

Firstly, it’s tankobon.
Secondly, unlike in Toriyama’s inconsistent coloring version, it’s now colored consistently (so no green Bulma’s hair in early chapters), it’s not colored by Toriyama, and the colors of things that have never been colored by Toriyama are taken from the anime.
It’s better to stick with what Toriyama has made.

The thing is, cleaning a color page takes much longer than doing a black/white page. And I don’t want to release the complete story in color. I like black/white. I’d only do some pages (the coolest) also in a color version as a special. If I had these full colored digitial prints, which I don’t. But I just saw somebody wants to. And of course they decided to start at chapter 195 instead of chapter 1. Fucking assholes.
I wonder though. What do they take moneywise for a volume of the digital copy. Since all they need is one version on a server that get’s copied over and over. No materials, storage, less people to pay, no transports and all that. Here a volume of Dragonball in print costs 5 Euro. How much does the digital copy go for? Somehow I doubt it’s just 1 euro, when I see how much greedy itunes charges for their music titels. Which are also only a digital copy of one digital file without all the costs of a normal cd track. And they still charge 1 euro for each song when a much fairer price would be 25 cents.

I agree, Feanor. I like my DB mostly in black & white with just a little color thrown in here and there. I say keep doing what ya been doing and you’ll always be better than the rest in my book.

Also, btw, do you know what ever happened to the tank versions of Dr. Slump that Enexame were doing? I noticed in the credits you were supplying the raws, that’s why I ask. I can’t seem to find any updates after volume 3, which was like ages ago…

Puh, that was quite some time ago. As best as I can remember, when I was over there they were already doing Dr. Slump. And I think I had come across some better raws than the ones they had, so I got that credit. I think that was when I was working for them on one of the earlier volumes. To be honest, the series didn’t interest me though. And after the shit they pulled on me when the had me work on volume 1 of Spriggan with a deadline, and than didn’t release that volume, I really don’t give a shit about what they do. In fact they still haven’t released it and it’s been like two years since I finished it for them.
That’s what you get when people get too full of themselves. Tank releases and shit.
Could be there were no better raws for the whole Dr. Slump series. Or they stopped working on it. I really don’t remember.
EDit: I just looked up on their website, because I thought maybe I could find my posts about that again. And after remembering the url and my login (it’s been ages since I been there) I found it. I had found the raws on irc on gotlurk.
volumes 2, 3, 4 & 5 were good quality. And volumes 6, 7, 8 & 9 were lower quality and lower resolution. I think it was a kanzenban release. Don’t know if there are only 9 volumes or if that’s all they had on gotlurk. There you go. If you want to know for sure. Go to jcafe24.net, make an account and write to morten. But if I had to pick one series..uh..there’s no question DB’s his best without even a close second. And his DB is all the more better with you translating it! Thanks again!
